This article explores the power, violence, and interrelationships between perpetrators and victims in closed spaces such as trains and buses, which are the background of Lee Mun-yeol’s “Pilon and the Pig” and Oe Kenzaburo’s “Pop of the People,” through the continuity of historical change. The purpose is to examine how the space of the novel changes into heterotopia. The actions of characters and the development of events that occur in the mobility space allegorize aspects of social structure and history through expansion of meaning. By exploring the protagonist’s consciousness and story structure shown in the ending and exploring the dynamism and circularity of the closed space, the author’s perception of history and reality can be examined. Closed spaces such as trains and buses, which are revealed as a series of breaks or discontinuities in novel time, go beyond simple means of transportation and form an allegory of historical repetition and circulation, and represent the nature of history in which social structures and ideologies are reorganized by new power. . We hope that mobility research on historical space will contribute to expanding the spectrum of historical novel analysis dealing with popular consciousness and presenting a multifaceted research methodology.
